UK Prime Minister Offers Cautious Support for Manchester City Amid Financial Scrutiny
Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and former Mayor of Greater Manchester, recently commented on the financial allegations facing Manchester City. While attempting to maintain a neutral stance, he subtly expressed support for the club amid widespread criticism.
“I would be very concerned if they were to leave. They have played a huge role in shaping modern Manchester and, clearly, in turning Manchester City into the global powerhouse they are today. I am genuinely grateful to the City Football Group and the broader ownership for the investment they’ve made, not only in the Etihad Stadium and the surrounding campus but also in the city itself.
Everton found themselves in a similar situation a few years ago, and you may recall that I defended Everton back then because I still firmly believe they were treated unfairly in that process. I remember how people condemned Everton at the time, and looking back now, I think most would agree that the approach was unjust. Therefore, it would be wrong for me to take sides, given my experience before becoming Prime Minister. It’s disappointing when people rush to judgment,” Burnham told the BBC.
