Everton played their final preseason friendly at Hill Dickinson Stadium before the new season kicked off. The hosts dominated the first half, largely thanks to the energetic performances of their wingers. The Ukrainian defender for Everton featured prominently, staying on the pitch for 76 minutes before being substituted.

In the 40th minute, a penalty was awarded for a foul on Deusbury-Hall, which Ndaiye calmly converted to give Everton the lead. The second half saw Johnson make his debut for the Blues, creating a couple of promising chances to score.

As the match approached its conclusion, the visitors grew more assertive and managed to snatch a draw in the third minute of stoppage time. Haraldsson struck powerfully from close range to level the score.

Everton 1–1 Lille
Goals: Ndaiye 40 (penalty) (1–0); Haraldsson 90+3 (1–1).
