Fabio Cannavaro, the head coach of the Uzbekistan national football team, addressed the recent surge of false information circulating about the squad.
“There has been a lot of misinformation spread, possibly because I am a foreign coach. The rules we follow were not created by me—they are European standards. The previous coach was an excellent local specialist who achieved good results, but that is no reason to criticize me. I felt it necessary to clarify this matter. Perhaps the abundance of lies is due to a ‘rat’ within the team,” Cannavaro told championat.asia.
The Italian coach took charge of Uzbekistan after the team qualified for the World Cup finals. At the tournament, his side lost all their matches—1-3 against DR Congo and Colombia, and 0-5 to Portugal. Despite these disappointing results, Cannavaro remains in his position for now.
