Granit Xhaka Informs Alonso He Will Remain at Sunderland, Rejecting Chelsea Move
Forward Granit Xhaka will continue his career at Sunderland. According to insider Gianluca Di Marzio, the Swiss midfielder personally informed coach Xabi Alonso that he will not be transferring to Chelsea.
It is worth noting that Alonso had hoped to bring Xhaka into his squad. The Spanish coach previously worked with the player at Bayer Leverkusen, where they won the Bundesliga, the German Cup, and the German Supercup together.
Sunderland had earlier stated that they never considered Xhaka as a candidate for sale. In his first season with the Black Cats, the 33-year-old contributed one goal and six assists in 33 appearances, helping the team secure a historic qualification for the Europa League.
