Serge Gnabry and Another International Player Return to Bayern Munich
The German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed that Serge Gnabry has returned to Bayern Munich, leaving the Germany national team camp ahead of their final Bundesliga international break match.
Gnabry was included in Jurgen Klopp‘s squad for all four UEFA Nations League fixtures scheduled during this three-week international break. He featured in all three matches played so far, regaining fitness after missing last summer’s World Cup due to a hip adductor injury. In the 2-0 victory over Serbia, he wore the captain’s armband for the first time.
However, prior to the game against Greece, he returned to his club to prepare for the Bundesliga season restart. There have been no reports of a new injury, so he is expected to be available for Bayern’s fifth-round match against Augsburg.
Following the Serbia match, Gnabry commented on his physical condition: “I am not yet at 100 percent. That was my fourth match. In previous games, I spent less time on the pitch. But I need to build my fitness through match practice. Every minute is important right now.”
France international Dayot Upamecano has also returned to Bayern Munich. His departure from the national squad was due to a clear reason — referee Jesus Gil Manzano showed him a red card during the UEFA Nations League group stage match against Italy which ended 1-1.
The French national team announced that instead of keeping Upamecano with the squad, the decision was made to send him back to his club.
For Bayern, this means Upamecano can return to Säbener Straße and begin preparations for upcoming club fixtures, while the rest of the players remain with their respective national teams.
