Joshua Kimmich, captain of the Germany national team, has shared his thoughts on the upcoming debut of new coach Jürgen Klopp at the helm of the national side. The Bundesteam is set to face the Netherlands tomorrow in a UEFA Nations League clash.
“I definitely get the impression that he is extremely enthusiastic about this role and that it means a great deal to him. He is full of energy, determination, and anticipation,” Kimmich told RTL in an interview.
As captain and one of the most experienced players in the squad, the 31-year-old midfielder is ready to take responsibility and help Germany recover from their disappointing 1/32 final exit at the World Cup against Paraguay.
“To get the best out of this team, character and the right mindset are essential. I also see that as part of my role,” he said.
The Bayern Munich star emphasized that the key factor will be the team’s attitude.
“I think, first and foremost, it’s about our approach—both on the pitch and off it, as well as within the squad. It will be important for us to rediscover our identity. This identity is reflected on the field, beyond it, in external and internal aspects. It shows in how we treat each other and how we play for each other on the pitch,” Kimmich added.
