Javier Aguirre has been appointed as the new head coach of Valencia. The Mexican manager has signed a contract until the end of the current season, with the club holding an option to extend the deal for an additional year.
Born in Mexico City on December 1, 1958, Aguirre joins Valencia following his tenure with the Mexico national team at the 2026 World Cup, where the squad reached the Round of 16. This marked the 67-year-old’s third World Cup as Mexico’s head coach, having previously led the team in 2002 and 2010.
Throughout his extensive coaching career, Aguirre has managed several Spanish clubs, including Osasuna, Atlético Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganés, and Mallorca. He also brings international experience from managing clubs and national teams in Japan, the UAE, Egypt, and Mexico.
One of Aguirre’s most notable achievements in Spain was guiding Osasuna to qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Currently, Valencia sits second from bottom in the La Liga standings.
