Ronald Araújo is set to join Liverpool this season after the Reds secured a loan deal with Barcelona for the central defender.
Araújo accepted Liverpool’s offer following a conversation with Hansi Flick, who informed the Uruguayan that he would play a secondary role at Barcelona this season.
The German coach addressed Araújo’s departure during a press conference after Barcelona’s tournament in Italy.
“He is a very good person and an exceptional player, but our style of play is somewhat different. He is a footballer with excellent speed and strength, and he is also very comfortable on the ball. I wanted to involve him more in the game. I think he is eager to try something new, and I believe recent events also influenced his decision.
I said goodbye to him this morning and saw that he is happy. Liverpool is a great club, and I wish him all the best. This is something we have to accept,” Flick said.
Liverpool included a purchase option in the contract worth €55 million for next summer, so it is possible that we may not see Araújo in a Barcelona shirt again.
