Gavin Bazunu, the goalkeeper for the Republic of Ireland and English club Bolton, has informed his national team teammates that he does not wish to participate in the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Israel, according to The Irish Times.
This decision by Bazunu has sparked fresh discussions within the Ireland squad, as several other players are reportedly also considering withdrawing from the fixtures against Israel.
In light of the situation, the planned press conference and training sessions for the Irish team in Debrecen have been postponed. The team is scheduled to face Israel on 27 September in the second round of the Nations League.
Both encounters between the two sides will be held at neutral venues. The first match is set for 27 September at the Nagyerdei Stadium in Debrecen, Hungary, while the second, behind closed doors, will take place on 4 October in Bačka Topola, Serbia.
According to The Irish Times, members of the Irish squad have also discussed the possibility of donating their match bonuses from both games to a charity operating in Gaza.
