Following a 1-1 draw away against the Netherlands and a 0-1 home defeat to Greece, Germany will approach their upcoming fixtures against Serbia at home and Greece away with a significantly altered squad.
For his inaugural call-up as the Germany national team head coach, Jürgen Klopp opted to summon a total of 44 players, dividing them into two groups. After the first two matches, most players from the first group will be sent home, including captain Joshua Kimmich.
After the loss to Greece, Kimmich admitted to having mixed feelings about leaving the team and expressed a preference to remain for the next two games.
“I would have liked to stay, but I understand that the coach wants to get to know other players. The plan was set from the beginning; we will be rotating the squads. So I will be supporting the team from home,” Kimmich told reporters. “But until the very end, I hoped I might be able to stay.”
