Liverpool’s head coach Andoni Iraola reflected on the team’s 2-4 defeat to Leeds in Chicago, marking the final match of their American preseason tour.

“I believe we’ve learned a lot,” Iraola said. “Of course, this isn’t the result we wanted, but perhaps this was our most valuable friendly yet — positive in the first half and negative in the second. I think we gained important insights today, and we can draw the right conclusions to address some issues.”

Discussing the preseason debuts of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, and Ryan Gravenberch, Iraola added, “I think they performed very well. They each played their first 45 minutes. Obviously, Florian and Alex, who featured in the first half, had an easier or even better game. For Ryan, it was tougher. Jeremy [Frimpong] requested a substitution, but I don’t believe it’s an injury. It was just fatigue, and I hope he hasn’t been hurt. I don’t think we lost anyone.”

On Liverpool’s preseason tour, Iraola concluded, “Our goal is to prepare for the start of the season — that’s when people want to see us play well and achieve results.”
