Liverpool have secured an unexpected defensive signing following the departure of Ibrahima Konaté. The Merseyside club have agreed to take Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo on loan from Barcelona for the 2026/27 season, with an option to buy for €55 million. At Barcelona, Araújo had lost his place in the starting lineup and was seeking a new challenge.
The English club confirmed the deal in an official statement: “We have reached an agreement to loan Ronald Araújo from Barcelona, subject to work permit approval and international clearance.”
The 27-year-old Uruguayan is versatile, capable of playing both as a central defender and on the right flank. The arrival of this adaptable defender will help Andoni Iraola address defensive issues caused by injuries to Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leone.
