Franjo Ivanović is on the verge of securing a season-long loan move to Lens. The Croatian forward from Benfica has been granted permission to travel to France for a medical examination. Lens managed to outpace Lazio in the race for his signature, despite the Italian club having already agreed terms with the Portuguese side.
“I will be completely honest with you. The club did everything possible to sign Ivanović; we had an agreement with Benfica, and then I spoke directly with the player. He chose Lens because he wants to play in the Champions League. What could we do? Maybe we should have contacted him earlier,” Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso told the Italian media.
