Luka Modrić Expresses Deep Shame Following Croatia’s 0-7 Defeat to England
Luka Modrić, the veteran midfielder and key figure of the Croatia national team, openly admitted that the 0-7 defeat to England triggered some of the most painful emotions of his career.
“It’s hard to find an explanation for such a performance, not to mention the internal conflicts, mistakes, aggression, and lack of unity. I’ve been here for 20 years, but this is the first time I’ve felt ashamed after a match,” Modrić confessed bitterly.
“The loss is understandable because England are better than us right now, but to lose in such a manner and tarnish the reputation we’ve built over years is unacceptable. I am deeply ashamed.”
“This is not how football should be played. It felt as if we were missing four or five players on the pitch. It was a catastrophic evening, and we must not blame each other or look for scapegoats; we need to stand together,” Modrić added.
Croatia will soon face a new challenge, with their next scheduled match on October 6 against the reigning world champions, Spain.
