Man Utd Weighs Eddie Howe, Conte, Nagelsmann, Tuchel, and Southgate as Manager Candidates
Michael Carrick is facing intense pressure as the manager of Manchester United following a poor start in the Premier League and a recent exit from the League Cup on Wednesday.
Although Carrick currently retains the backing of the club’s leadership, speculation about his potential dismissal is rampant in the media. Italian outlets have linked Antonio Conte with the United job, but bookmakers at Sky Bet rank him only fourth among the most likely candidates to replace Carrick.
The frontrunner at this stage is Eddie Howe, who left Newcastle United last summer. Following him are Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down as Germany’s head coach after an early exit from the 2026 World Cup, and current England manager Thomas Tuchel. The top five is rounded out by former England manager Gareth Southgate, who is reportedly a favorite of United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
