Mario Basler, the former Germany international, criticized Joshua Kimmich following the defeat to Greece. The 57-year-old analyst argued that the Bayern Munich midfielder was given the ball too often when Germany was searching for attacking opportunities.
“Kimmich runs somewhere, and everyone immediately passes the ball to him. I don’t know why. But yesterday, Kimmich failed to make an impact. I’ve been saying for months, even years, that Kimmich is not a world-class player. He’s an ordinary midfielder who apparently wants to take all the corners, all the free kicks, everything, and runs all over the pitch.
I think Jürgen Klopp will have to intervene in the future because this style of play won’t lead us to success if Kimmich carries the ball through midfield and slows the game down.
