Ukrainian coach Yuriy Maksymov has been appointed as the new manager of Araz Nakhchivan, a club competing in the top division of Azerbaijani football. His contract is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 season.
“This is not my first time working in Azerbaijan,” Maksymov said. “I have previous experience here, so I understand the local mentality and am familiar with some of the players. I also have quite a few friends in Baku.”
Regarding Araz, Maksymov has reviewed all their matches except for the one against Imishli. “I have a general understanding of the team and their squad,” he added. “I know our weaknesses and where we can gain an advantage. We need to work hard. Tomorrow we will hold our first training session with the team. I am aware that four of our players are currently away at the national team training camp and will join us later.”
“Our immediate goal is to climb from the bottom of the league table to the top,” the Ukrainian coach emphasized. “The team must believe in themselves. We have to rise as high as possible. This is a crucial moment for us. I repeat, it will not be easy because the championship is very competitive, the teams are strong, and each has its own objectives.”
It is worth noting that Yuriy Maksymov has previously served as head coach at several clubs, including Vorskla, Dnipro-1, Metallurg, Kryvbas, Obolon, and CSKA Kyiv.
