Discontent is growing in Milan as key players Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot have chosen to extend their holidays ahead of the 2026/27 Serie A season kickoff. According to Italian media, neither player has yet met with the new Rossoneri head coach, Ruben Amorim.
The French duo was expected back on August 14 but have now decided to prolong their break following the World Cup until August 16, just one week before Milan’s first Serie A match against Torino.
Some Rossoneri supporters have expressed disappointment over this decision, especially since Inter players Lautaro Martinez and John Stones, who also participated in the final stages of the World Cup, have already returned to training with the first team under Christian Chivu.
During the World Cup, Rabiot indicated his intention to return to Milan, meet with Amorim, and fight to reclaim a starting spot for the 2026-27 season. However, the situation with Maignan is less clear, as the goalkeeper has hinted at dissatisfaction with his role in the squad. Recently, the Rossoneri captain removed all photos and references to Milan from his social media profiles.
Confusion also surrounds Maignan’s absence from the funeral of the legendary Franco Baresi last week, an event that many expected the current captain to attend.
