According to Foot Mercato, Olympique Marseille and Newcastle United are close to finalizing the transfer of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. Looking to strengthen their midfield following Bruno Guimarães’ departure to Arsenal, the Magpies aim to complete the Danish midfielder’s move this week in a deal valued at around €15 million.
This agreement is also significant for Marseille, who are operating with limited resources and require funds to stabilize their financial situation.
Having arrived in France two years ago, Højbjerg quickly established himself as a key player for Marseille. In his first season, he featured in 32 matches, all as a starter, and in his second season, he played 43 games, including eight appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
If the transfer goes through, the experienced midfielder will return to the Premier League, where he previously played for Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
