Modrić Set to Extend Milan Stay for 2026/27 Season
Italian media report that 40-year-old Luka Modrić is leaning towards staying at Milan for the 2026/27 season. The midfielder is officially a free agent after his one-year contract with the Rossoneri expired on June 30.
The former Ballon d’Or winner joined Milan from Real Madrid a year ago. His initial deal included an option to extend for an additional 12 months, but that option has now lapsed.
There had been speculation that Modrić, along with several other Milan stars, might leave the club during the summer transfer window. Reports also suggested that the Croatian was offered a coaching or director role at Real Madrid. However, according to today’s update from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Modrić has decided to extend his stay at Milan for another season.
The final decision is yet to be confirmed, but Milan is keen to retain the legendary midfielder. It is reported that Modrić enjoyed his time at San Siro during the 2025-26 campaign, despite the disappointing end to the season. An additional factor favoring Milan is that Luka’s daughter is successfully playing for the Rossoneri’s under-13 team.
