Today, August 12, the UEFA Super Cup match between PSG and Aston Villa will take place. The game is set to be held at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg. Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan has been appointed as the match official. The referee will blow the opening whistle at 19:00 UTC.

Artan gained notoriety after being barred from officiating at the World Cup. At Miami International Airport, US immigration officers detained the Somali referee for 11 hours, during which his diplomatic passport and single-entry US visa were denied.

A US government representative stated that Artan was refused entry into the country due to alleged “connections with suspected members of terrorist organizations.”

Last season, PSG won the UEFA Super Cup by defeating Tottenham in a penalty shootout.
