Paraguayan Commentator Banned from World Cup Following FIFA Criticism
Commentator Jorge Veras has been stripped of his accreditation and expelled from the 2026 World Cup following his remarks after Miguel Almirón’s red card for covering his mouth.
After the sending-off of the player from his national team, Jorge Veras lost his composure. He branded the referee a “thief” and claimed that the International Football Association Board (IFAB) had “killed football,” placing the blame squarely on FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Veras later issued an apology directly to FIFA. However, it appears his apology was not accepted, as FIFA revoked his accreditation and removed him from the World Cup participants.
