Ferran Torres and Marquinhos secured a crucial victory for PSG in the French Ligue 1 as the reigning champions edged out Marseille away in the headline fixture of the round.
Torres opened the scoring for Paris in the middle of the second half, heading the ball into the net following a cross into the box. However, Marseille responded quickly, with Angel Gomes breaking free from PSG’s defense to calmly finish past the goalkeeper in the 72nd minute.
The 1-1 scoreline lasted only a few minutes before the visitors struck again. Another delivery into the penalty area found Marquinhos, who capitalized on the goalkeeper’s save with a follow-up shot to restore PSG’s lead.
Adding to Marseille’s woes, they were reduced to ten men after Timothy Weah was sent off, but they still had a chance to equalize. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Agger found himself unmarked in front of goal following a cross, yet he failed to hit the target.
The 2-1 win marked only PSG’s second victory in the current Ligue 1 season.
