Arteta Praises 16-Year-Old Max Dauman’s Impact in Carabao Cup Win
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta admitted that managing the hype surrounding Max Dauman has been challenging after the 16-year-old striker scored twice to help the Gunners secure a 4-2 victory over Ipswich Town in the third round of the English League Cup.
Arteta made the bold decision to start both Dauman and 17-year-old Marley Salmon at Portman Road, and Dauman certainly delivered by netting a brace.
When asked about Dauman’s performance, Arteta said, “It’s great to have him with us, along with Marley. To be 16 and show that level of physical readiness to handle the demands at this level… it’s simply incredible.”
Regarding how he plans to manage the excitement around Dauman, Arteta responded, “It depends on what he does on the pitch, which makes it difficult. I understand the attention, but we have to look after him. He’s only 16, and you don’t see that in this league. In other European leagues, the context is completely different.”
