Real Madrid sells forward Ortega to Strasbourg without first-team appearances
Real Madrid has sold 20-year-old forward Jacobo Ortega to French club Strasbourg for €10 million. This transfer marks a record fee for a player developed by the club who has never appeared for the first team. However, Real Madrid will retain 30% of Ortega’s rights, according to Marca.
Initially, Strasbourg offered €8 million for half of the player’s rights. Ortega had been playing in Real Madrid’s youth teams, where he caught the attention of the French club’s scouts. He joined the “Blancos” academy system in 2018 at the age of 12 and spent eight seasons developing there.
Standing at 190 centimeters, Ortega is a classic number nine—a tall, powerful, and technically skilled striker. Within the academy, his playing style was often compared to that of Karim Benzema. During the 2025/26 season, he mainly played for Real Madrid C, the club’s second reserve team, and also made appearances for Castilla. He scored around 18 goals, with his second season being particularly impressive and drawing the attention of scouts.
