Mercedes driver George Russell dominated the qualifying session in Baku, securing pole position with a commanding margin of over 0.8 seconds ahead of his closest rival. Notably absent from the top contenders was the 2026 season leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who suffered damage to his car and will start tomorrow’s race from 16th place.
The second spot on the grid went to Charles Leclerc representing Ferrari, while Australian Oscar Piastri of McLaren claimed third. Despite showing strong pace in the free practice sessions, Max Verstappen struggled in the final qualifying segment and will line up in eighth position.
The main event, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, is scheduled for September 26 with a 11:00 UTC start.
