Jonas Valančiūnas, the center for Žalgiris, made his debut in the 2026/27 EuroLeague season by scoring 13 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and blocking 3 shots, finishing with an efficiency rating of 24 in the away game against Crvena Zvezda (83:77).
During the second quarter, Valančiūnas suffered a nosebleed following a collision with the opposing center Jordan Nwora. He had to leave the court again in the fourth quarter due to a similar issue and spent time on the bench.
“The most important thing is the victory. It was a tough match. Both teams played well. It was a good game. It’s nice that in such an atmosphere, in such a challenging game, we managed to win. We keep moving forward; there’s no need to celebrate too much. Of course, the win is pleasing, but it’s just one of many,” Valančiūnas reflected on his debut.
“I won’t comment on the atmosphere in Belgrade or praise anyone, but you can hear where you are playing. It’s all part of the game. There will be whistles; you just ignore them and keep playing. As for my injury, I’m not going to diagnose myself. Perhaps the doctors will run some additional tests, and then we will see the results,” he added.
