Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany held a press conference following his team’s 2-1 victory over South Korean side Jeju. The goals for the German champions came from promising youngsters Bastian Assomo, aged 16, and Felipe Chaves, 19.
“It’s always important to provide young players with guidance, support, and challenging tasks,” Kompany said after the match. “Regarding Basti Assomo and his goal, we knew he was capable of that. He still has a lot to improve as a forward, but for a 16-year-old, that was a good goal.
There is no pressure on these young players; this is a learning phase for them. Guido (Della Rovere) and Chaves are slightly older than Basti. Some of these players are ready to take the next step, whether with us or elsewhere. We must support them on this journey. They need to keep progressing.”
However, the Belgian coach plans to field his main squad in the upcoming match against Aston Villa in Hong Kong.
“I believe the players who played 30 minutes today can manage 60 minutes on Friday. Those who played 60 minutes today will play 30 on Friday. Lucho Diaz, Laimer, and Stanisic are not ready yet. But the German internationals, along with Min-jae and Ito, are prepared,” Kompany added.
