England head coach Thomas Tuchel reflected on his team’s 2-3 loss to reigning world champions Spain at Wembley, insisting that his side performed better overall despite the defeat.
“It was a terrible start, the worst possible, which made life very difficult against such a team. However, our reaction was excellent, and I think after the tenth minute we looked the better side.
We still made two or three serious mistakes that allowed the opposition to create dangerous chances, but overall we played better and controlled the game. Unfortunately, we missed a penalty that could have been a decisive moment. That would have been the first time the Spaniards doubted their unbeaten run.
Then there was another major error that led to the score being 2-2. There were too many significant individual mistakes,” the England manager said.
Tuchel is unlikely to prioritize the UEFA Nations League, choosing instead to focus fully on preparing for Euro 2028, the tournament that will be jointly hosted by Great Britain and Ireland.
