UEFA Threatens Legal Action Against FIFA Over Infantino’s Investment Plan
UEFA has threatened legal action against FIFA despite Gianni Infantino’s abandoned plan to sell stakes in FIFA competitions to private investors.
FIFA and Infantino had proposed creating a commercial subsidiary to manage their flagship events, including the World Cup, with external investors able to buy shares in this entity.
As first reported by The Telegraph, UEFA sent a letter to Infantino stating that it is “actively considering initiating legal proceedings, arbitration, and/or complaints to regulatory authorities (collectively referred to as ‘proceedings’) arising from FIFA’s proposed FFE plan and its related matters.”
UEFA further demanded “immediate steps to identify, locate, and preserve all documents and electronically stored information described in this notice that are under your control or in FIFA’s possession.
These obligations apply regardless of any internal document retention policies you or your organization may have and override any standard document destruction or deletion policies that would otherwise be in effect.”
