Brandon Clarke passed away due to complications from heroin and cocaine, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner.
The death of the Memphis Grizzlies forward, who was found unconscious on May 11 at just 29 years old, has been ruled an accident.
The combined effect of several prescription medications was also identified as a “significant factor” contributing to his death.
The body of the American-Canadian athlete was discovered on May 11 in a home located in the San Fernando Valley, California. Emergency services found Brandon Clarke unconscious in his bedroom and declared him dead at the scene. Drugs were also found inside the residence.
Clarke was selected 21st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by Oklahoma but was immediately traded to Memphis, where he spent his entire career. In the NBA, he appeared in 309 games, averaging 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds over 20 minutes per game.
