Defender Klay Thompson has made it clear that he wants to leave the Dallas Mavericks. The four-time NBA champion is eager to compete for a title, but the current state of Dallas does not give him that opportunity.
“I want to compete for a championship—not necessarily to win it, but just to have the chance to try and earn another title. I want to play a significant role on a team that, hopefully, will succeed in the playoffs, whether that’s this season or the next. That’s essentially my only goal,” Thompson said during a Twitch stream.
Thompson has one year left on his contract with the Mavericks, worth $17.5 million. The club is looking to trade Klay and is not interested in buying out his contract, which would allow him to sign as a free agent on a minimum salary with the Miami Heat or Los Angeles Lakers, both of whom have shown interest in the player.
