Rich Paul, the agent of Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, has confirmed that his client will continue his NBA career next season but with a different team. The 41-year-old star will enter free agency.
“LeBron James will carry on his NBA career in the 2026/27 season and has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that the franchise can move forward without him, as he plans to play elsewhere,” Paul told ESPN in an interview.
The Lakers had hoped to retain LeBron after eight seasons with the club, but the legendary player is seeking a new destination. Reports have suggested that James is considering two main options for continuing his career: returning to his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, or joining the Golden State Warriors. Recently, the Miami Heat have also expressed interest in signing the star forward.
