The primary reason for the delay in the investigation concerning forward Kawai Leonard is the search for a punishment that would satisfy Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, reports journalist Vivek Jacob.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver aims to maintain a good relationship with Ballmer. It is expected that any penalties imposed on him and the Clippers will be largely formal, with Leonard’s trade to the Toronto Raptors likely to be approved before the start of training camp.
Ballmer, whose net worth is estimated at around $150 billion, is suspected of violating NBA salary cap rules through payments to Leonard made via the bankrupt company Aspiration. This arrangement may have resulted in Leonard receiving an illegal payment of $28 million.
