Forward Mikal Bridges will not receive a new contract from the Phoenix Suns at least until the end of the offseason, according to ESPN insider Brian Windhorst.
In June, the Suns acquired Bridges from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale. There were reports that the club intended to extend the 28-year-old forward’s contract, but no progress has been made on this front, even after the Phoenix re-signed Dillon Brooks.
Last season, Bridges averaged 17.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, marking the first time in four years he failed to reach 20+ points per game. Despite this, the Suns consider him a key part of their future plans and still intend to revisit the contract extension issue at a later date.
