Ronaldinho, the 2002 FIFA World Cup champion, is reportedly involved with the Andorran investment fund Clayton Sport in a potential acquisition of the basketball club Monaco. This move aims to help the club retain its place in the French Betclic Élite championship.
On Monday, Monaco’s general manager, Oleksiy Yefimov, received a letter expressing interest in investing in the club. The letter came from Clayton Sport, which, together with Ronaldinho, is exploring the possibility of purchasing the team.
According to sources, the prospective new owners are prepared to meet the club’s current financial obligations. This includes settling a €2.5 million debt owed to the Euroleague and providing a €5 million bank guarantee to the National Directorate for Control and Management (DNCCG) as part of a €12.5 million budget. Additionally, Ronaldinho and Clayton Sport are ready to commit to financing €100 million over three years.
Monaco must submit an application to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) by August 19. The parties involved in the project have previously aimed to finalize the agreement by August 14.
