Dainius Adomaitis was officially appointed as the new head coach of the Lithuanian men’s national basketball team during the Executive Committee meeting of the Lithuanian Basketball Association on Wednesday. He replaces Rimas Kurtinaitis, who resigned earlier this month.
In an effort to expedite the appointment process and assist the new coach in assembling the national team roster, the Lithuanian Basketball Association made an unprecedented decision not to wait for the presidential elections scheduled for October 14.
On Tuesday, the association’s Secretary General, Dominikas Domarkas, convened all four presidential candidates, who unanimously agreed to recommend Dainius Adomaitis for the head coach position. The 52-year-old specialist accepted the offer. This decision was subsequently ratified by the Executive Committee on Wednesday.
Previously, Adomaitis served as the head coach of the Lithuanian national team from 2016 to 2019, taking over from Jonas Kazlauskas.
Over the past four years, the Lithuanian coach has been leading the club team Alvark Tokyo in Japan’s top-tier basketball league.
