Germany will have to face their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Serbia and Greece without Nico Schlotterbeck. According to BILD, the central defender left the national team’s training camp in Herzogenaurach early due to an injury to his right ankle.
The injury occurred during the final training session today, and Sky Germany reports it is a lateral ligament sprain. BILD adds that surgery is not required, but Schlotterbeck is now at risk of missing matches for Borussia Dortmund as well.
His participation in the game against Werder Bremen on Friday, October 9, remains uncertain as he will continue his treatment with Borussia Dortmund.
It is also noted that the 26-year-old defender was considered a strong candidate to become the new captain of the Germany national team in the absence of Joshua Kimmich.
