The Ukrainian national volleyball team caused a major upset in the ongoing Nations League tournament held in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. They delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over the reigning world champions, Italy, with set scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-16.
This achievement is impressive on its own, but even more remarkable is that in their previous match, Ukraine defeated Brazil 3-1. Brazil is another global powerhouse, having won medals in six of the last seven World Championships. Historically, Ukraine’s best performance in that competition was reaching the quarterfinals once.
Apart from these two favorites, Ukraine has also secured wins against China (3-1), Cuba (3-0), and Brazil (3-1) in the current Nations League. However, they suffered defeats against Japan (0-3) and Poland (2-3). These results place Ukraine second in the tournament standings.
