Highlights: Dakota Ditcheva Passes Her Toughest Test Yet Against Denise Kielholtz at PFL New York
For the first time in quite a while, Dakota Ditcheva had to prove she could do more than score spectacular knockouts. Returning after more than a year away from competition, the unbeaten British star faced experienced Dutch veteran Denise Kielholtz in the co-main event of PFL New York. Instead of another quick finish, fans witnessed a disciplined, fifteen-minute performance as Ditcheva earned a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) to improve her professional record to 16-0. It wasn’t her flashiest win, but it may have been one of her most impressive.
Kielholtz made it clear from the opening bell that she wasn’t intimidated by Ditcheva’s reputation. The former Bellator standout used her kickboxing background to stand her ground and exchange strikes instead of backing away under pressure. While Ditcheva landed the cleaner combinations and controlled the center of the SmartCage, Kielholtz’s experience prevented the British champion from finding the openings that had led to so many previous stoppages. She increased her output, mixed body attacks with sharp straight punches, and repeatedly forced Kielholtz onto the defensive. Several heavy combinations briefly rocked the Dutch veteran, but to her credit, Kielholtz refused to wilt under the pressure. Despite absorbing some of the hardest shots of the fight, she continued firing back and survived moments that would have ended many other contests.
By the final round, Ditcheva was firmly in control, but she never abandoned her game plan in search of a highlight-reel finish. Instead, she relied on smart footwork, accurate combinations, and excellent distance management to close out the fight without taking unnecessary risks. Kielholtz remained dangerous until the final horn, landing occasional counters and showing exactly why she has been respected for years across both Bellator and the PFL. Even without a knockout, Ditcheva demonstrated maturity by recognizing that dominating every minute can be just as valuable as chasing an early stoppage.
When the scorecards were read, the result reflected what had unfolded over three rounds: a clear but hard-earned unanimous decision for Ditcheva. The victory preserved her undefeated record and proved she can thrive even when an opponent survives her early offense. For Kielholtz, the defeat came with plenty of positives, as she pushed one of the sport’s brightest stars further than almost anyone else has managed. As for Ditcheva, this performance answered another important question about her evolution as a fighter—she doesn’t need a quick finish to show she’s one of the best flyweights in the world.
