Highlights: Yadier Del Valle Sends Darren Elkins Into Retirement with Stunning 35-Second KO at UFC Fight Night 284
Darren Elkins’ final UFC appearance lasted just 35 seconds. The veteran featherweight stepped into the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 284 against rising Cuban prospect Yadier Del Valle, but instead of getting the competitive farewell fight many expected, Elkins was stopped almost immediately. Del Valle landed a devastating left hook that dropped “The Damage” against the cage, prompting referee Kerry Hatley to step in and call an end to the contest. The official result was a first-round KO at 0:35.

The opening exchange was actually encouraging for Elkins. Knowing that Del Valle would likely want to use his speed and striking, the longtime UFC veteran immediately looked to close the distance and take the fight into his preferred territory. Elkins shot for a takedown early, but Del Valle read it well, defended the attempt and quickly returned to his feet. It was a small moment, but it set the tone for what followed: Del Valle wasn’t going to allow Elkins to dictate the fight with his wrestling.
Only moments later, Del Valle found the opening that ended everything. The Cuban loaded up on a powerful left hook, catching Elkins clean and sending him crashing down against the fence. Del Valle immediately followed the punch, but the referee recognized that Elkins was no longer intelligently defending himself and rushed in to stop the fight. There was no controversy and no need for a second barrage—the damage from that single sequence was enough to bring the bout to an abrupt conclusion.
The timing made the result especially difficult for Elkins. At 42 years old, “The Damage” had already announced that this would be his final UFC fight. He entered the matchup with 30 UFC appearances behind him and a career defined by toughness, durability and a willingness to take on difficult opponents. His UFC career stretched back to 2010, making him one of the promotion’s longest-tenured veterans. After the loss, Elkins followed through with his retirement, laying down his gloves following the bout.
For Del Valle, however, this was a massive moment. The Cuban prospect needed only 35 seconds to rebound from the first professional loss of his career, which came against Jordan Leavitt earlier in 2026. Instead of allowing that setback to slow his momentum, Del Valle produced the fastest knockout of his professional career against a fighter with enormous UFC experience. He also showed plenty of class afterward, acknowledging the significance of sharing the Octagon with Elkins and dedicating the victory to a former coach who had passed away.

Elkins’ career deserved a longer final chapter, but MMA rarely gives fighters the endings they imagine. His last UFC fight became a painful 35-second snapshot of the sport’s unforgiving nature. Del Valle, meanwhile, leaves UFC Fight Night 284 with one of the most memorable victories of his young career and a clear message to the featherweight division: he has the speed, power and composure to punish even experienced UFC veterans. For Elkins, the gloves are finally down; for Del Valle, the next chapter is just beginning.
