Making a first impression is important, and Moustapha Diakhaté couldn’t have asked for a better debut under the PFL banner. After his original opponent was forced off the card, unbeaten prospect Darryl Walker accepted the fight on less than 24 hours’ notice. The change did little to slow Diakhaté down. The Belgian light heavyweight looked composed from the opening bell before finishing Walker by first-round TKO at 2:35, announcing himself as a serious new contender in the promotion.
Walker entered the bout with confidence despite the short notice, immediately taking the center of the SmartCage and looking to test Diakhaté’s striking. For the opening minute, both fighters exchanged heavy shots without giving much away. Walker showed plenty of toughness and wasn’t afraid to stand in the pocket, but Diakhaté remained patient, refusing to rush the finish. Instead, he carefully measured the distance, forcing Walker to react rather than dictate the pace.
The turning point came midway through the round. Diakhaté connected with a clean combination that rocked Walker and sent him stumbling backward. Rather than swinging wildly, the Belgian stayed balanced and followed up with precise punches before dragging the fight to the canvas. From the mount position, he unleashed a relentless barrage of ground-and-pound, leaving Walker with nowhere to escape. After several unanswered strikes, the referee stepped in to wave off the contest, giving Diakhaté a statement victory in his promotional debut.
What stood out most was Diakhaté’s composure. Many fighters facing a late replacement tend to abandon their game plan, but he did the opposite. He never forced exchanges, trusted his boxing, and recognized exactly when Walker was hurt. Once the fight reached the ground, there was no hesitation. His transition from striking to top control was seamless, and the finish reflected the confidence of a fighter who looked completely at home on a major stage.
For Diakhaté, this was the ideal way to begin his PFL career. A dominant first-round stoppage immediately puts the rest of the light heavyweight division on notice and gives fans plenty of reasons to be excited about his future. Walker deserves credit for stepping in on extremely short notice and showing plenty of heart, but experience and preparation ultimately made the difference. If Diakhaté continues to perform with this level of discipline and finishing ability, he won’t stay under the radar for long.
