Starting from the new season, the Adidas Torfabrik ball has been reintroduced in the 2. Bundesliga and 3. Liga, sparking discontent among many goalkeepers. Bayern & Germany magazine shared players’ reactions to the change.
“Previously, we used Derbystar balls, but the Torfabrik is faster than the Derbystar. It’s easier to strike well with it, so it suits outfield players more. For goalkeepers, it leaves slightly less time to react due to its higher flight speed. Many goalkeepers are shocked and horrified. At least, that’s the impression I have so far,” said Hamburg goalkeeper Daniel Heuer, as quoted by the publication.
Dynamo Dresden forward Jakob Lemmer also commented, stating that “the new ball has become a real test for goalkeepers because it moves quickly and unpredictably — high scoring is expected. In fact, this is already happening: 31 goals were scored across 9 matches in the opening round of the 2. Bundesliga.”
