Al-Ain Dominates Al-Nassr 4-0 in AFC Champions League Opener
Al-Nassr suffered a stunning 4-0 defeat against Al-Ain from the UAE in the opening round of the main stage of the AFC Champions League on September 15. The Saudi club, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, was overwhelmed at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in an unexpected thrashing.
The goals for the visitors came courtesy of the Rahimi brothers: Hussein Rahimi struck twice, netting in the 25th and 63rd minutes, while Sufyan Rahimi added another in the 72nd minute. The scoring was sealed by Georgios Jakumakis in the 85th minute. Despite playing the full match, Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to find the net, as Al-Nassr endured one of their heaviest defeats since the Portuguese star joined the club.
The losing side’s coach, Australian Ange Postecoglou, admitted that the team overall performed poorly, even though the players gave their all. For Al-Nassr, returning to the elite division of the Asian club competition, this result represented a particularly painful setback.
