Manchester United’s new signing, André Santos, has boldly stepped up, declaring himself ready to fill the void left by his compatriot Casemiro’s departure.
The young midfielder joined Old Trafford from Chelsea for a significant £50 million fee, marking a notable shift in the club’s recruitment strategy under Michael Carrick’s guidance.
At 22 years old, Santos represents a long-term investment. Despite the pressure, the former Chelsea player welcomes the comparisons. He has already begun to justify the excitement surrounding him during the preseason, starting all four friendly matches and delivering a confident performance against two-time European champions Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg.
Speaking to the media for the first time as a Manchester United player, the Brazilian embraced the responsibility of replacing Casemiro.
“Casemiro is like a legend to me, you know. Now he’s gone. Now I’m here, and I feel I can do what Casemiro did last season, and I’m here to do just that,” Santos said.
He also outlined his playing style, which fits Carrick’s system that demands technical excellence in the defensive midfield role.
“My qualities? I prefer to play deeper, as a number six. So I try to help my teammates without the ball, and with the ball, I like to break through defenses,” the young Brazilian added.
This season, Manchester United will compete in the Champions League. Carrick has tasked the revamped squad with closing the gap on the leaders, and Santos fully shares these high ambitions.
“When I talk about Manchester United, we talk about winning. We have to work hard every day to try to win every possible trophy. As a player, I have my own goals, and I hope to achieve them,” Santos concluded.
