Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick sought to ease concerns over Mason Mount’s injury after the midfielder was forced off early in the preseason friendly against Paris Saint-Germain, which ended 1-1.
The England international lasted less than 20 minutes on the pitch in Gothenburg before a potential injury cut his game short, raising fears of another lengthy absence.
The 27-year-old midfielder’s time at Old Trafford has been significantly hampered by fitness issues since his high-profile move from Chelsea in 2023, as a series of unfortunate injuries have prevented him from reaching his best form. He has started just 25 Premier League matches out of a possible 114 since joining Manchester United.
Speaking to the media about Mount’s condition, Carrick explained, “He took a knock. We just wanted to be cautious and look after him. We’ve been lucky with injuries so far, so we wanted to be careful.”
Footage shared by journalist Samuel Luckhurst later showed Mount walking freely towards the team bus, suggesting the injury might not be as serious as initially feared.
Looking ahead, Manchester United will kick off their new Premier League season against newly promoted Hull City on August 22.
