The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has officially presented Lionel Scaloni with a new contract offer. The proposed deal would extend his tenure for two years, taking him through to the 2028 Copa America, with an option to further prolong the agreement until the 2030 World Cup.
Scaloni’s current contract is set to expire at the end of December 2026. Following Argentina’s defeat to Spain in the World Cup final, the coach has repeatedly stated he needs time to consider his future. Nevertheless, the federation remains optimistic and is eager to continue their collaboration. According to Argentine media and insiders, including Fabrizio Romano, negotiations have progressed significantly. The parties are now discussing the finer details, with the final decision resting entirely with Scaloni.
In the meantime, Scaloni remains in charge as he prepares the national team for upcoming friendlies against Bolivia, Burkina Faso, and Benin. The match against Benin will mark the farewell appearance of Lionel Messi in the national team jersey.
