Beckham: Messi Deserves Ninth Ballon d’Or After 100th MLS Goal
David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, has voiced his support for Lionel Messi, believing the legendary forward deserves to win another Ballon d’Or after scoring his 100th goal for the MLS club.
The former England captain emphasized that Messi’s outstanding performances at the age of 39, combined with his stellar displays on the international stage, make him the leading candidate for football’s most prestigious individual award.
“When you watch what he does on the pitch and recall how he performed at the World Cup… No one at 39 can do that. Especially not play at such a high level. He deserves to be in contention for the Ballon d’Or. In my opinion, he should win it,” Beckham said.
A potential ninth Ballon d’Or would further cement Messi’s status as the most decorated player in the history of the award, which was established by France Football magazine in 1956.
The entire football world is eagerly anticipating the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which will be held in London on October 26 to mark the 70th anniversary of the award.
