The French Sports Arbitration Tribunal has rejected Bordeaux‘s appeal, upholding the regulator’s decision to exclude the six-time French champions from the national leagues. The club failed to provide the necessary financial guarantees in time for the upcoming season. As a result, the Girondins have been relegated to the amateur regional division, and the club now faces the threat of judicial liquidation.
A change of ownership and financial audits were unable to reverse the situation. Investors injected approximately ten million euros to settle debts, but the regulator deemed the club’s financial condition hopelessly compromised. Legal proceedings may soon trigger the liquidation of the club’s assets, while former owner Gérard Lopez faces potential lawsuits for management errors and a ban from football activities. The Girondins’ only remaining hope lies in an urgent appeal to the administrative court.
