Brazil Files FIFA Protest Over Vinicius Junior’s Disallowed Goal vs Scotland
The Brazilian national team has lodged a protest with FIFA regarding the disallowed goal by Vinicius Junior in their match against Scotland. The “Seleção” based their appeal on an alleged foul by Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, which went unpunished prior to Lionel Messi’s opening goal against Austria.
Representatives from the Brazilian Football Confederation told TyC Sports, “The disallowed goal for Brazil in the match against Scotland seems inconsistent with the philosophy applied in this tournament. It is worth noting that the decision appeared surprising not only to Brazil but also to the Scottish players, whose reaction showed they did not expect either a review of the incident or the goal to be overturned.”
The incident took place in the 22nd minute when Vinicius applied pressure on Scottish defender Jack Hendry, intercepted the ball, and scored what would have been Brazil’s second goal. However, Mexican referee Cesar Ramos, after consulting VAR, ruled that the winger had committed a foul and subsequently disallowed the goal.
